THE HUNNIES
JULIA - Don't let the pink hair fool you, she isn't the attention seeking type. She lives for quiet spaces to read her manga collection, sipping cinnamon tea, getting lost in the stories. Her self-confidence is something she's working on. She wants to be a singer, yet she is expected to take over the family business one day. She helps her folks by ordering inventory and curating a vast Manga section at their family owned bookstore; In The Reads.
BELLE - A hard worker, genuine and kind. She runs the sprawling, Hinode Ranch which supplies many local businesses with fresh food and flowers. She wants to find her people, more than just a "Hi, how are ya?" but someone who cares and is supportive of her in turn. A group that she can sit around the campfire with sharing stories until the cows come home.
FELICIA - Over the top, feisty, and energetic is just how she loves to be. Work as a voice actor is what she always wanted so she could put her talents on display. Getting the role of Nightclaw herself, the anime vigilante character has been a highlight of her career so far. The fans line up to meet her at expos, but in her personal life she lets no one get close. She protects herself with distance, rarely letting people in.
SARA - She loves gaming! Living in that digital space is so freeing to her. She can be anyone and do anything, when she is in the game. So, she became a streamer and quickly gained supporters making her digital life feel so full but it required a lot of energy, so when she went offline life felt empty. Going to the gym, shopping, cafes, but nothing felt fulfilling enough on its own as she felt so drained.
YURI – She is softspoken with seemingly intimidating eyes, but she is calm and reassuring when you truly get to know her. The bakery keeps her plenty busy, so when she has down time she enjoys visiting the local cafes for inspiration and atmosphere; she enjoys hiking trails and the intricate crafting of origami cranes. She can be quite content on her own, but she thinks anything is more fun with friends. It’s not easy for her to meet people, but she does try.
A CLUB IS BORN
Julia had a routine at Coco Bean Cafe. Sipping cinnamon tea at her favorite corner table with a stack of manga she'd fan out like a hand of cards. She was deep in a volume of Nightclaw when the rumble of Belle's blue pickup pulled into the lot, delivering the day's haul of eggs, honey, and lavender for the café's signature teas. It was Belle's last stop of the morning, so she came in to sit down and enjoy a cold glass of chocolate milk, she glanced over at Julia's collection and one specific cover grabbed her attention.
"Is that Nightclaw?"
It was. And just like that, the afternoon disappeared.
Julia told Belle about an upcoming convention where fans could meet the voice actress behind the character. Belle didn't need convincing. They swapped numbers, compared schedules, and made a plan.
The Convention
The day of the convention, Julia and Belle found Felicia the very voice of Nightclaw herself. Julia had brought her prized alternate art cover, the one she'd been protective of forever, and Felicia signed it without hesitation. It was the kind of moment that feels small but meant everything.
They were almost out the door when Felicia spotted the logo on Belle's shirt.
"You play Operation Onslaught?"
Belle lit up. She'd waited in queue for the Starbird Blaster that very morning to snag one of the rarest drops in an in-game event. Felicia's eyes went wide. She steered them toward the exhibit hall down the way, where the official Operation Onslaught booth had a crowd gathering around it.
At the center of it: Sara. Streamer, competitor, and arguably the most well-known face in the Operation Onslaught community. Sara had also gotten the Starbird Blaster that morning. She and Belle immediately hit it off, trading strategies and losing their minds over the game devs update notes. Nearby, Julia was fangirling over her favorite moments in the Nightclaw anime with Felicia. Of course Felicia had to brag about the Nightclaw-themed skin in the MMO’s coming season as well.
By the end of the day, gamertags and numbers were exchanged, new friendships were budding, and something had quietly begun.
The Next Morning
Julia didn't know it was the last piece yet.
She noticed a new bakery had just recently opened downtown. It was just a quick stop, out of curiosity. Behind the counter was Yuri: quiet, focused, with a kind smile. Julia glanced up and noticed a handwritten sign on the wall. All ingredients locally sourced. Below it, a photo of Belle and her ranch.
Julia smiled and mentioned she knew Belle.
Yuri's expression softened slightly. Julia tried a few samples, offered her honest compliments, and slipped out to cover a shift at her parents' bookstore a few blocks away.
She thought about the last few days, the cafe, the convention, the bakery. Five women orbiting the same small world without realizing it. The connections that would soon start Hunny Club.
